On June 26, the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, presented the Report “Youth in Spain 2024: Between Emergency and Resilience,” a study that offers a detailed snapshot of the situation of young people in our country.
This report, coordinated by Professor Carles Feixa of Pompeu Fabra University, involved 27 researchers and is based on a face-to-face survey of 5,010 people between the ages of 15 and 34.
At Ikerfel, we are proud to have contributed to this project, bringing our experience in social research to delve into key aspects such as youth emancipation, education, employment, mental health, and political participation.
Among the report’s most notable findings are:
- A decrease of 1.3 million in the number of young people over the last 40 years, reducing their share of the population from 23.7% to 15.9%.
- A halving of the early school leaving rate since 2010 and a 23% increase in the number of young people combining studies and employment.
- 90% of young people connect to the internet at least two hours a day, making this a fundamental part of their lives.
- One in three young people experience unwanted loneliness, reaching more than 47% among those who identify with the acronym LGBTQI+.
This report, which commemorates 40 years of analysis of youth in Spain, includes for the first time a chapter dedicated to mental health and extends the study age to 34 years, reflecting the evolution and diversity of youth realities.
