Findings from the “Quality of Life and Satisfaction with Public Services in Madrid” Study Unveiled

We share some key findings from the latest analysis carried out by Ikerfel for Madrid City Council, recently presented by the Deputy Mayor and Municipal Spokesperson, Inmaculada Sanz Otero, highlighting how Madrid residents perceive the evolution of their city and its public services.
- High satisfaction with living in Madrid: Citizens rate their satisfaction with living in the capital at a strong 7.7, maintaining the same high level as in the previous edition.
- Stable quality of life: Madrid repeats an average score of 6.9, consolidating a positive and consistent perception across all districts.
- Madrid improves as a child-friendly city: The city’s rating as a suitable place for children rises to 7.0.
- Best-rated public services: The Fire Department leads the rankings with a score of 8.3, followed by SAMUR–Civil Protection (7.8) and SAMUR Social (7.5).
- Mobility and public transport: The metro remains the most widely used mode of transport among Madrid residents (68.8%), followed by the urban bus network, which increases its usage to 65.1%, while private car use declines slightly (49.8%).
- Perceived safety in the city: The perception of safety remains stable compared to the previous edition, with a score of 7.7 during the day and 6.0 at night, reflecting an overall sense of confidence in the urban environment.
- Housing as the main public concern: Housing continues to be the greatest challenge for Madrid residents, with a significant increase in the percentage of respondents who place it among the city’s top three issues (from 37.5% in 2024 to 57.6% in 2025).
- Emerging concerns: Worry about the cost of living is growing, while the importance given to issues such as traffic, pollution, and cleanliness is decreasing.
The results of this study are based on a survey conducted between 19 September and 30 October 2025, with a total of 8,593 interviews, enabling further analysis both at the citywide level and across each of Madrid’s 21 districts.
